Spec by Spec is a trading name of Shereen Amin, a sole trader, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact us at hello@specbyspec.co.uk with any privacy question or request.
2. What we collect and why

We don't ask for any sensitive information, and we never sell or rent your details.
3. Who handles your data for us
- Payhip runs our checkout, delivers free and paid PDFs, and sends our update emails. Payment card details go to Payhip's payment partners; we never see them.
- Amazon handles paperback orders under its own privacy notice. We don't receive your details when you buy a paperback.
- Zoho Mail hosts our email inbox, so it stores emails you send us.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and keeps basic technical logs, such as IP addresses, to keep it running and secure.
Some of these providers may store data outside the UK. Where they do, they use safeguards approved under UK data protection law, such as standard contractual clauses.
4. How long we keep it
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe. We then keep only a record of your unsubscribe so we don't email you again.
- Orders: for six years after the end of the tax year of purchase, as UK tax law requires.
- Emails to us: for up to two years after our last exchange, unless they relate to an order.
5. Children
Our resources are for students, but sign-ups and purchases are meant for parents, carers and students aged 13 or over. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or carer to sign up for you. If we learn we hold details of a child under 13 without a parent's consent, we will delete them.
6. Cookies
This website doesn't set any cookies of its own or use analytics. Payhip sets cookies on its own pages to run checkout; its privacy notice explains them. If we add analytics or other non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent first.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong, or delete your data.
- Stop or limit how we use it, or object to our use of it.
- Send your data to you or another provider in a usable format.
Email hello@specbyspec.co.uk and we will reply within one month. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
8. Changes
We may update this policy when our services change. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
